Sharjah residents to face a ban for smoking in indoor public places fom June 1

Sharjah: Sharjah Municipality has announced that residents and establishment will face fines in the emirate for smoking in indoor public places as of June 1.

Individuals will face a fine of Dh1,000 if caught smoking indoors and establishments will be fined Dh10,000 for the first violation and Dh20,000 thereafter, said Dr Salah Al Haj, director general of Sharjah Municipality . That includes shopping malls, barber shops, restaurants and cafeterias.

He said that designated indoor smoking rooms would not be allowed either.

“Smoking is prohibited in any place that has a roof,'' he added.
