The pairing of the second round in the Dubai Snooker Club Open saw favourite Salim Ali Salim put under severe pressure by Pepsi UAE Junior Snooker Ranking no 1 Ali Bufaroosha.

Losing the first frame by a large margin, Ali Salim could see he had a hard task on his hands and responded well by drawing level at 1-1.

The next saw Ali Salim edge through on the pink ball after a great positional shot from green to brown set up his clearance. Still fighting hard, the much improved Bufaroosha threw everything he could at Ali Salim, but it wasn't enough.

Another close faught pink ball game saw a very relieved Salim Ali Salim through to the fourth round, commenting: "Ali's potting was very good and absolutely fearless – he put me under so much pressure all the way through the match. The only thing that saved me was that Ali's positional play was not perfect all the time, so I just potted what I could and eventually managed to win."

Results: (second round) Mohd Hussein Ali UAE bt Khalid Faraj UAE 3-1; Abdul Hamid Abdul Kareem UAE bt Mohd Sharif UAE 3-1.

Third round: Yousuf Hamadi UAE bt Mohd Hussein Ali 3-1 Abdul Hamid Abdul Kareem UAE bt Deepak Simha IND 3-1; Leong IND bt Khalid Ali Abdulla UAE 3-0
Salim Ali Salim UAE bt Ali Bufaroosha UAE 3-1
