Sharjah Police have confirmed the success of their security and traffic operations during the Eid Al Adha holiday, which ran from June 5 to 8. The police call center efficiently handled more than 33,000 calls via the emergency number 999 and the non-emergency number 901.

Brigadier General Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al Naour, Director General of Operations and Security Support, attributed the smooth handling of the holiday period to early planning, strong inter-agency coordination, and the strategic deployment of police teams across the emirate. He emphasized that security teams were on alert around the clock and responded to reports quickly and effectively.

Focus on high-traffic areas

Al Naour explained that the security strategy was informed by detailed studies of traffic patterns and anticipated crowd sizes in key locations such as mosques, shopping malls, tourist spots, and public parks. This helped ensure increased police visibility, smooth traffic flow, and enhanced public safety throughout Sharjah.

Call statistics: majority not emergencies

During the holiday, the emergency hotline 999 received over 29,000 calls, while the non-emergency number 901 fielded more than 4,000 inquiries. Al Naour noted that most 999 calls were not urgent in nature and urged residents to use the correct number based on the situation to allow emergency teams to prioritize real emergencies.

Appreciation for public cooperation

Sharjah Police extended their gratitude to the public for adhering to safety and traffic guidelines. They emphasized that community cooperation played a significant role in maintaining order and safety during the holiday period.

Continued commitment to public safety

The police once again reminded the public to contact 999 for emergencies and 901 for non-emergency inquiries. They assured residents that efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the community will continue across all occasions.
