Indian schools in UAE fare well in exams

School results in the Grade 12 exam quite impressive this year, official says

A senior official representing the Central Broad of Secondary Education in the UAE said the school results in the Grade 12 exam were quite impressive this year.

Farooq Wasil, Chairman of the CBSE Gulf Council, told Gulf News that most schools in the UAE have fared quite well and are content with the overall school performance. "There are no surprises this year as far as the overall school results are concerned. We all expected good performances from each school. A good result is one which is balanced," he said.

Wasil said it would not be appropriate to comment on whether boys have outperformed girls, or vice versa. In the results declared yesterday, Venkat Chandrasekaran topped the science stream with 93.6 per cent followed by Shubhraneel Mitra with 92.6 per cent and Shukti Das with 91.6 per cent.

In commerce, Maaz Ali Khan stood first with 90.4 per cent followed by Aarti Gupta with 90.2 per cent and Vinay Pratap with 87.6 per cent. In the arts stream, Ruchi Inder Ladkani topped with 82.2 per cent. She was followed by Aishwarya Menon with 80.4 per cent and Charmy Chandran with 79.8 per cent.

In the Emirates English Speaking School, Razeena AbduRahman topped the science stream among girls followed by Sarah Liyakat Ali. Among girls in the commerce stream, Charmaine Colaco stood first.

For the boys, Mohammed Adil Khan topped the science stream while the top commerce student was Tajinder Singh Sethi. At Our Own English High School the top spot in science among boys was shared by Chirag Nitin Gandhi and Thyagaraja Somaskanda with 91.8 per cent. Dhruv Gupta stood second with 91.per cent. Among girls, Aditi Dugarwal stood first with 90.2 per cent followed by Asma Nasir Kamal who scored 89.4 per cent.

In the commerce stream for boys, Tarun Krishnadas Menon stood first with 82.6 per cent while the second position was shared jointly by Kamal Tak, Rajiv Kakar and Jinwin Sebastian with 81.2 per cent. Among the girls, Dhwani Niranjan Shah stood first scoring 90.4 per cent while Mehsa Sheikh stood second with 88.2 per cent.

In the arts stream, Maheesa Vahedi Sarrigani stood first with 81.6 per cent followed by Gayatri Subramanium in second spot with 77.4 per cent. At the Central School, among boys Mohammed Anas stood first, Mohammed Omer second and Manesh Raj, third, in the science stream. Among the girls, Mansuri Asma Banu topped in science followed by Jahanara Begum and Aaliya Mehtab.

In the commerce stream, Mubina Sultana stood first followed by Natasha Basnet in the second spot while Haritha Bollu placed third. At the Gulf Indian High School among girls, Uma Damu topped in the science stream followed by Sharlene Nancy Natasha De Sousa and Shabnaz Begum. In commerce, Andal Sridevi stood first followed by Suchi Pandey and Champa Bhatia.

Among the boys in science, Jovito Sebastiao Fernandes stood first while Tharun Vattazhi was second and Qaed Mahmud stood third. In commerce, Abhisek Upendran stood first followed by Renfer Razack and Nitin Kumar Tewari.

Schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain have claimed high success rates in the CBSE Grade XII examinations. Abu Dhabi Indian School, which entered 114 girls and 124 boys, secured 100 per cent success, with only three compartmentals.

The top girl in the science stream was Shamna Rasiya Beegum with 90.8 per cent. In commerce, Mili Kalayil Gokulan captured the top position with 84.6 per cent while in the arts stream Teenu Mary Thomas stood first with 79.6 per cent.

Among boys, Deepak Narayanan Kallankara topped in science with 93 per cent. Zaveri Nishit Deepak from the commerce stream topped with 89.6 per cent. From St Joseph's School in Abu Dhabi some 47 students took the exam – 25 science students and 22 commerce.

P. Anju Jayaprakashan, a science student secured 88.8 per cent to capture the overall top position in the school, followed by two other science students, Anuradha Ghosh with 85.6 per cent and Bethina Afra Anwar with 85.4 per cent. 

Some 40 boys and 43 girls from the Indian Islahi Islamic School took the exam. The school's principal said that all except one student passed and there were three compartmentals. The top scorers in science were Sharmina Kandathil Valappilagath, Nilufer Latheef and Jesheela Mohammed Ali. In the commerce stream, Roshini Rajasekharan Nair stood first, followed by Shabana Oruvil and Samanta Maryson.

Cent per cent

The Sunrise English Private School in Abu Dhabi obtained 100 per cent pass results. The school sent up 59 students – 37 for the science stream; 22 for commerce. The top girl and boy students in Science were Lily Soosan George and Roy Rajan Mathai, while the top girl and boy in commerce were Shiji Annie Mathew and Sinu Chacko Varghese.

In the Our Own English High School in Abu Dhabi, Humairah Irfan topped in the science stream and Nadiya Mehboob Siddiqui in the commerce section.

The Indian School in Al Ain announced that its students had secured 100 per cent success. A total of 43 students appeared from the school's science section and 22 from the commerce stream. Overall, 17 students obtained distinctions and 29 were placed in the first division.

In the science stream, Vivek Pradeep stood first with 91.6 per cent marks, followed by Praveen Gopal Krishnan with 89.8 per cent and Mihir Gajanan Saudagar with 88 per cent. In the commerce stream Shereen Saeed stood first with 85 per cent, followed by Prabeetha Rajasekhar with 82.8 per cent and Brentha Sterlin with 82.4 per cent.

Seventeen students took the CBSE exam from Darul Huda Islamic School in Al Ain. Six secured first divisions and the rest passed in second divisions. In science, Mohammed Suhail Alam and Nazir Hayath stood first and second respectively. Anwar Abubacker and Syed Jelani Pasha were first and second in the commerce stream.
