New private education law to be enforced soon

Dubai: A new law to regulate private education will come into force shortly, Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, Minister of Education, told Gulf News yesterday.

"The new law will improve private education section and regulate educational and financial aspects in private education institutions in the UAE," Al Qutami said.

He said the law was based on the best practices in Singapore and Australia and incorporates inputs from owners, headmasters and parents' councils in the UAE.

Gulf News has learnt that the law is likely to be endorsed this month or in early March.

"The law will regulate relations between the ministry, private institutions and local authorities in different emirates," Al Qutami said.

It aims to strengthen the ministry's role in terms of curricula, examinations and adult educational programmes in the country.
