The mysterious sounds emanating from the Al Jeer cave can now be heard on the Internet, making it an even bigger tourist attraction than it had already become.
Now a person need not travel all the way to Ras Al Khaimah to hear the sounds. They can be heard by downloading the website www.rak-lover.com. The headline "Strange Voices Coming from Al Jeer Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah" appears on the screen.
With a click on the Real Player button the surfer can hear the sounds that have baffled residents and tourists. The website touches upon the various theories that try to explain the sounds. It says they start at nightfall and continue until dawn. They were first heard in June and several UAE nationals were interviewed by the local press. But the mystery remains unsolved.
Several rumours have floated: some say a genie lives in the cave; others claim it is an owl, and still others believe that it is a supernatural phenomenon. Local resident Ahmed Al Shehi said a few weeks ago, "Everybody has been airing opinions to explain the odd phenomenon, but no one has been able to offer any proof or proper interpretation of these mystery sounds so far."
He added that even if residents are forced to accept an explanation merely to close the chapter on this mystery, the minds of residents will never rest until the sounds are explained satisfactorily.
