The Al SABQ programme is a talent discovery initiative to nurture young Emirati racers
Dubai: Yas Heat Academy has announced the 2026 edition of ‘AL SABQ’, a premier grassroots programme aimed at uncovering Emirati motorsport talent.
The initiative, hosted at Yas Kartzone in Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, is dedicated to building a sustainable pipeline of Emirati motorsport talent.
Aimed to discover and develop the UAE’s brightest young driving talents, AL SABQ is offering a clear progression into competitive karting for Emirati children aged 5 to 7, both boys and girls.
In what will be its second edition, the programme will focus more on nationwide engagement and boosting female participation as it aims to strengthen its position as a fully inclusive national platform.
Scheduled to take place on Saturday 18 April 2026, the selection day will host up to 20 young drivers for a comprehensive full-day evaluation, including time trials, fitness and focus tests, and behavioural assessments on and off the track.
Participation is free, with registration closing one week before the event.
Ali Al Beshr, General Manager of Yas Marina Circuit, highlighted the initiative, emphasising how AL SABQ aims to boost motorsport participation across the region.
“AL SABQ represents our long-term commitment to building a sustainable pipeline of Emirati motorsport talent.
“By expanding our national outreach and placing greater focus on female participation, we are creating broader access to opportunity and ensuring that the future of UAE motorsport reflects the diversity and ambition of our community.”
At the end of the selection day, the two highest-ranking male drivers and the leading female driver will each earn a fully funded Bambino racing seat in selected local championship events as official Yas Heat Academy drivers, under the management of Yas Heat Racing.
The programme guarantees equal opportunities for young female talent, with a dedicated spot reserved for the top female participant.
“It is a perfect opportunity for young Emiratis to take their first steps in the world of motorsport,” Beshr added.
“Through karting at Yas Heat young drivers can receive valuable support to not only thrive on the track but also raise the UAE flag high in local and regional competitions, showcasing the nation’s passion for motorsport.”
Since its founding, Yas Heat Academy has been instrumental in developing Emirati drivers for the international motorsport arena.
Alumni including Keanu Al Azhari, Hamda Al Qubaisi, and Rashid Al Dhaheri have advanced to global championships, highlighting the success of a structured pathway that starts at the grassroots level.
The 2026 edition of AL SABQ builds on that legacy, reinforcing Yas Marina Circuit’s wider commitment to national talent development, youth engagement and long-term motorsport excellence.
Whilst its main spotlight is hosting the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Yas Marina Circuit offers a wide range of exciting activities throughout the year.
Visitors can experience high-speed karting at Yas Kartzone, enjoy performance driving experiences, take part in advanced racing schools, or simply explore the circuit on guided tours.
These experiences not only provide fun for fans of all ages but also play a vital role in inspiring and developing the next generation of Emirati motorsport stars, supporting initiatives like Yas Heat Academy in nurturing young talent from grassroots to international competition.
Registrations are open now for the Al SABQ programme via the Yas Marina Circuit website.
