It’s not just the footballers under the microscope in the January window and the news coming out of Old Trafford will probably delight and dismay Manchester United fans in equal measure.

Manager Jose Mourinho on Thursday said he is committed to the club and will extend his contract to stay with the English football giants.

The 54-year-old whose contract will end after the ongoing Premier League season has been constantly linked with a move to French big-spenders and Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain.

Mourinho is in discussions over a new contract but it has been reported he is ready to walk away as fans and critics have vented their displeasure at his tactics and results on the pitch.

When asked if he will quit Old Trafford, he said: "I say garbage. I don't find a better word than to define the talk.

“I am in the middle of my contract. If I am going to sign a new one of course depends on the club but my commitment with the club is total and I want to stay,” the Portuguese said.

“The worst thing anyone can do with myself is not to say that I am a bad manager,

“It is not to say that I am underperforming. It is not to say that I made a mistake in this game or that game

“The worst thing someone can do to me is to put one inch of doubt on my professionalism or in my dedication to my club, my job, my players and to every detail related to my job.”

Only time will tell if this is the right decision for all involved, including the fans, club and man himself.
