G42 partnership brings first-ever generative AI helmet to pro cycling

Dubai: What if you could design a helmet worn by elite riders in the world’s biggest cycling races – without ever picking up a pen? That question became a reality on Monday as UAE Team Emirates–XRG unveiled a professional helmet designed entirely using generative AI during Stage 3 of the Tour de France.
The cutting-edge design is the result of a collaboration between G42, the UAE’s AI and technology holding group, UAE Team Emirates–XRG, and MET Helmets. This marks the first time in professional cycling history that a race-day helmet features a visual identity fully created by artificial intelligence.
The helmet’s design captures movement through airflow and negative space, reflecting the dynamic journey of cyclists across mountains, coasts, and cityscapes — a bold blend of data, performance, and imagination.
While all team members wore the AI-designed helmet during Stage 3, star rider Tadej Pogacar wore the polka dot jersey and matching helmet after winning the previous mountain stage.
Andrew Jackson, G42 Group Chief AI Officer, said: “Partnering with a world-class team like UAE Team Emirates–XRG allows us to showcase the power of AI, not just in performance, but also in creativity. Helmetverse is an example of human-AI collaboration, providing a platform for people to design something personal. It’s AI at its most accessible — and most exciting.”
Mauro Gianetti, Team Principal and CEO of UAE Team Emirates–XRG, said: “Cycling is a unique sport because it is not only about competition and racing — both professional cyclists and casual riders can share the same roads and enjoy the ride together. Helmetverse gives fans a new way to be part of that journey. It’s an open, inclusive idea that brings fresh energy to the sport and reflects our ambition to lead both on and off the road.”
