RELIANCE SELLS $1 BILLION OF FIBER TRUST'S UNITS TO WEALTH FUNDS: Reliance Industries Ltd. will raise 75.6 billion rupees ($1 billion) selling units in a trust that holds the Indian conglomerate's fiber-optic assets to two sovereign wealth funds. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund will each invest 37.8 billion rupees in Digital Fibre Infrastructure Trust, Reliance said in a presentation.

TYPHOON GONI GAINS STRENGTH, SET TO HIT PHILIPPINES EARLY SUNDAY: Typhoon Goni is expected to hit the Philippines earlier than expected on Sunday as it continues to gather strength, according to the Philippine Tropical Cyclone Advisories website. The storm may be upgraded to a super typhoon in the next 12 hours and could make landfall in the eastern provinces of Catanduanes and Camarines early Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 8 am advisory. The typhoon was earlier predicted to reach the Philippines in the afternoon. The cyclone comes days after Typhoon Molave lashed the country, leaving at least 22 dead and causing at least 1.81 billion pesos ($37.4 million) of damage to crops.

INDIA RECORDS 48,268 NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES: India's coronavirus caseload stood at 8.1 million on Saturday, with 48,268 new cases being recorded in the last 24 hours, data from the health ministry showed. India has the world's second-highest caseload, behind only the United States, but new infections have seen a dip since September. Deaths rose up by 551, taking total mortalities to 121,641, the health ministry said.

IPL BETTING RACKET BUSTED IN MUMBAI, THREE HELD: The Crime Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Police and Crime Branch in India busted an IPL (cricket) betting racket and arrested three persons on Friday in Mulund West. A total of 41 mobile phones, SIM cards, a tablet, 2 laptops, WiFi routers, computer and Rs 1,88,500 were seized.

SWEET SHOP LAUNCHES GOLD SWEET AHEAD OF FESTIVAL: A Surat-based sweet shop in the Indian state of Gujarat has launched a gold sweet named 'Gold Ghari' ahead of a popular festival. 'Gold Ghari' is a different version of ghari, a sweet dish from Surat. The shop owner Rohan said, "It is available at Rs 9,000 per kg. The normal ghari is available at Rs 660-820 per kg. Gold is considered a beneficial metal in Ayurveda. It has been three days since its launch. Demand is a little below expectation as market is sluggish. We hope it will get good response in the coming days."

US JURY TELLS APPLE TO PAY $503 MILLION IN PATENT CASE: A jury in Texas on Friday decided that Apple should pay $503 million for infringing virtual private network technology patented by software security firm VirnetX. The legal battle between Apple and Nevada-based VirnetX involved data transmission security in devices such as iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, according to court documents.
