Expect the long knives and more in this weekend’s Tamil release

Spurred by movie dreams, Ganesh Vinayak left his home in Thirunelveli district as a 13-year-old and arrived in Chennai.
Now 36, he is excited on the eve of his debut film’s release, the action thriller Thagararu, featuring Arul Nidhi and Poorna in the lead roles.
“It is about four friends who con people in broad daylight,” revealed the former assistant of Simbu and Tharun Gopi.
A news report in a Tamil daily was food for thought, inspiring Vinayak to pen the script. Supporting Nidhi are actors Pawan, Dharun Shatriya and Murgadoss as his friends in the story set in Madurai. And with Madurai being synonymous with aruvaals (long knives) you can expect a good dose of stunt scenes.
“But that is not the only thing about Madurai,” said Vinayak.
“Madurai people are full of love and so hospitable. I had the privilege of enjoying that.”
Praising Nidhi for his punctuality and commitment, Vinayak said: “He is a director’s hero. Poorna is a good performer and her character is equally important as that of the hero.”
Nidhi added: “This role is completely different from my earlier characters. In the first half of the story I am a hyper guy whose innocence appears comical to others. In the second half, my character undergoes a change.”
“This commercial entertainer alerts viewers on how easily one can get conned,” added Vinayak.
Produced by Dayanidhi Alagiri and Vivek Rathnavel, Thagararu has music scored by Dharan Kumar. Cinematography is by Dilraj.
