The games are still on; they don't seem to be disappearing anytime soon. Will our protagonist finally put an end to it? Will our hero sailing the islands finally find the death traps?

Well, Season 3 will tell us. If you thought Seasons 1 and 2 of Squid Game were intense, get ready—Season 3 is about to take things even further. The Netflix drama is returning, and this time, those who fear heights should be on high alert. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is ready to play on that fear.

“In Season 1, we had lots of games like Tug of War that really utilized height and the fear that this height gives, but in the case of Season 2, we didn’t have that element,” he revealed to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. “That is why in Season 3, I decided to introduce games that could really infuse fear in people with sheer height.”

Beyond that hint, details about how height will be used in Season 3 remain scarce. But if past seasons are any indication, it’s going to be beyond intense. Hwang also shared that the contestants will push themselves to the very limits, exposing deeper themes in the story.

“In the case of Season 3, I wanted to introduce games that could really show the lowest bottom of human beings, because the series itself is reaching its climax,” he explained. “I wanted very intense games to bring out the bottom parts of human nature.”

What better time to explore these darker aspects than the final season, which Hwang confirmed is the definitive ending to the series. “Season 3 is indeed a finale,” he told EW, adding that the season will pose the “final question” of “how we should remain humans even amidst this intense competition.”

The new posters and teasers are out, though they don't tell us much, except that Gi-hun has returned from a rather badly planned bloodbath that killed his close friend. But he looks determined again, so maybe this time, there will be more success?

Squid Game first premiered on Netflix in September 2021 to widespread critical and audience acclaim, quickly becoming the platform’s most-watched series. The first season also earned six Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Season 2 debuted in December 2024, and Season 3 is set to premiere on June 27, 2025.

Season 3 picks up where Season 2 left off, with Gi-hun (Player 456) re-entering the deadly games, determined to dismantle them once and for all — despite the harrowing trials of the previous season.
