Dubai: What if AI could hire you, train you—and even suggest when you need a break from work?

A new study from Abu Dhabi’s Department of Government Enablement (DGE) says that’s exactly where the future of work is headed. By 2040, the way we get hired, work, and grow in our careers could look completely different—and AI will play a starring role.

In fact, some of those changes are already happening across Abu Dhabi Government departments.

AI will soon do much more

According to the Emerging Trends Report in Talent Management (2024–2040), AI won’t just assist with your day-to-day tasks. It could:

  • Recommend personalised wellness plans

  • Help you switch careers

  • Assign you to the perfect team using data

  • Predict if you're thinking of quitting

The report maps 16 big trends set to reshape how governments and companies manage people—from AI-led hiring and training to team structures where there are no “bosses,” just self-managed groups.

Gamified workdays? XR training?

You might soon see game-like work setups, complete with leaderboards and badges to boost performance. Or use virtual reality headsets to learn a new skill.

This idea isn’t science fiction—DGE is already using AI to track employee development, reduce resignations, and design smarter career paths within Abu Dhabi’s public sector.

“Spotting trends is the easy part,” said Ruba Yousef Al Hassan, Director General of Strategic Affairs and Future Foresight at DGE. “The real work lies in building systems that prepare our people for what’s next.”

UAE gets future ready for AI

From the AI Accelerator Programme to AI-powered planning tools, Abu Dhabi is applying these ideas now—making sure its government teams are ready for the future. One tool even helps align goals across departments more clearly and quickly, cutting down on endless meetings and confusion.

How does this report signal a big shift for you? Your next job might not care much about your university degree—but will care a lot about your skills. You might work with AI every day. For UAE residents, especially those in public sector or tech, this is a strong hint: now’s the time to learn, upskill, and stay future-ready.
