A microfibre towel looks soft because its threads are fine, but its useful trick happens at a much smaller scale. In quality cleaning microfibre, polyester and polyamide fibres can be split into still finer strands. Research published in Textile Research Journal found that this splitting produces tiny spaces and capillary channels that move water through the fabric. It also creates far more fibre surface to interact with dirt. On a car, that structure matters: instead of relying on a relatively flat surface to push contamination around, a plush microfibre cloth or mitt gives loosened particles somewhere to move away from the paint.

What microfibre is and who it is for

Microfibre describes extremely fine synthetic fibres, commonly polyester and polyamide. Split microfibre takes the idea further. The original fibre separates into multiple smaller strands, increasing surface area and creating spaces within the textile that can take up water and soil.

For car care, however, the cloth cannot make grit harmless by itself. Loose sand or dirt should first be rinsed away, while a wash mitt needs plenty of lubricating shampoo and regular rinsing. Chemical Guys, for example, instructs users of its chenille mitt to rinse the vehicle first and clean the mitt repeatedly during washing.

That technique is particularly useful when dust regularly settles on a car. Dry wiping dusty paint defeats much of the point of choosing a soft cloth. After washing, an absorbent microfibre drying towel also removes water quickly, useful when a car is being cleaned outdoors in the UAE's strong sunshine.

What to look for

Pile and construction matter more than the word "microfibre" on the label. For washing, look for a plush mitt with enough depth to accommodate loosened particles and hold soapy water. For drying, a larger, absorbent towel reduces the number of passes over the paint.

Contamination trapped in a towel can still mark paint. Clean tools, lubrication and light pressure remain part of the process.

Recommended microfibre car care products
MR.SIGA Professional Premium Microfibre Towels

These general purpose towels are the useful middle ground in a car care kit, suitable for jobs such as wiping detailing products, cleaning interior surfaces and finishing smaller areas after a wash. This product is a multipack of MR.SIGA microfibre towels,These premium microfibre cloths can be used safely on a variety of surfaces, whether dry, damp or with a cleaning spray. After use, allow them to dry thoroughly and wash separately by hand or machine in warm water below 60°C. Avoid using fabric softener or bleach, as these can affect the cloths’ performance.

Their real advantage is separation of jobs. Keep towels used on paint away from cloths used for wheels, door shuts or heavily soiled areas, so particles picked up during dirtier work do not migrate to more delicate surfaces.

Chemical Guys Chenille Microfibre Wash Mitt MIC493

The MIC493 applies the microfibre principle at the washing stage. Chemical Guys specifies a 70/30 microfibre blend arranged in thick chenille strands, with a cuff that keeps the mitt on the hand. The manufacturer says those plush strands hold soapy water and trap debris within the pile rather than leaving it concentrated at the paint surface.

The design makes sense for a conventional contact wash after a thorough rinse. Work in straight lines with plenty of shampoo, then rinse the mitt frequently so accumulated dirt leaves the tool instead of travelling around the car with you.

Premium Car Care Double Sided Drying Towel

Drying is where absorbency becomes the priority. This towel is sold as a double sided car drying towel, giving it a different role from smaller multipurpose cloths: taking up rinse water with fewer passes over large panels.

That reduces unnecessary wiping, provided the car has already been washed clean. Lay or lightly draw a clean drying towel across the surface rather than scrubbing at remaining marks. If dirt is still visible after rinsing, wash that area again before drying it.

FONAROLL Microfibre Applicator Pads

Not every microfibre job involves removing water. These FONAROLL pads use a soft microfibre exterior around a foam core and are intended for applying products such as automotive wax or polish. Available product information identifies as a reusable six pad set weighing 60g in total.

The pad format gives your hand a defined working surface and helps spread product over a panel without folding a towel repeatedly. Keep these separate from washing and drying cloths, particularly once they have absorbed waxes or other detailing products.

Verdict

Split microfibre works because its structure creates much more working surface and fine channels for water and soil. Good technique completes the job: rinse loose contamination first, use lubrication during washing, keep dirty cloths away from paint and avoid unnecessary pressure.

For the main contact wash step, the Chemical Guys Chenille Microfibre Wash Mitt MIC493 is the strongest fit here because its 70/30 blend and deep chenille construction are documented by the manufacturer and designed specifically to hold wash solution while carrying loosened dirt into the pile.

Wash microfibre separately from lint producing laundry, skip fabric softener and dryer sheets, and use low dryer heat or air drying. Those habits help preserve the fibres' absorbency and cleaning performance.
