Cairo: Oman's Health Ministry Wednesday recorded 372 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing to 6,043 the country's overall infections, the Omani news agency ONA reported.

The newly diagnosed cases include 152 Omanis and 220 foreigners, the ministry said without giving a breakdown of foreign patients’ nationalities.

A 34-year-old foreign resident, who had earlier contracted the coronavirus, died, raising to 27 the overall such fatalities in Oman, the ministry said Tuesday night.

Recoveries from the disease have increased by 87 to reach 1,661, the ministry said.

Oman this week tightened precautions to stem the spread of the coronavirus, including banning all gatherings during the Eid Al Fitr holiday including the Eid prayer and celebrations, and warned violators of jailing and fine penalties.
