Video: Saudi Arabia uncovers hidden drugs in fuel tank in major smuggling bust

Dubai: The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 17.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, commonly known as “shabu,” through the Empty Quarter border crossing, Saudi Gazette reported.

In a post on social media, ZATCA said the drugs were discovered during routine inspections, hidden inside the fuel tank of a vehicle being transported on an incoming truck.

Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC), leading to the arrest of two individuals allegedly linked to the smuggling operation.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking through strict border controls and ongoing cooperation with security agencies.

ZATCA also urged the public to report any suspicious activity via its hotline (1910), email (1910@zatca.gov.sa), or international number (+9661910). Reports are kept confidential, and informants may be eligible for financial rewards.
