Stretching kilometers, Hebbal flyover is a key infrastructure project in north Bengaluru
In a unique celebration of infrastructure development, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar rode a two-wheeler across the newly inaugurated Hebbal flyover in Bengaluru, drawing significant public attention. Many lauded the gesture as a symbolic demonstration of the flyover’s readiness for commuters.
The flyover loop, constructed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) at Hebbal Junction, was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who cut the ribbon and flagged off Shivakumar’s vintage bike ride as part of the event. The flyover aims to facilitate smooth traffic movement from K.R. Puram towards Mekhri Circle, a route long plagued by congestion.
Stretching several kilometres, the Hebbal flyover is a critical infrastructure project in northern Bengaluru and comes after years of construction delays and urban planning challenges. Shivakumar, known for his hands-on approach, personally rode the bike to signal confidence in the new structure’s safety and durability. Video footage of the ride quickly circulated on social media, sparking reactions ranging from admiration to surprise at the unconventional inauguration style.
Speaking at the event, Shivakumar highlighted the government’s commitment to improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure and reducing commuter stress. “This flyover is a vital step toward modernising our city and ensuring smooth traffic flow for citizens. I wanted to personally experience it to show that it is ready for public use,” he said.
Urban planners and residents expressed hope that the new flyover would significantly ease congestion at Hebbal, one of the busiest intersections in the city. The inauguration also underscored ongoing efforts by the Karnataka government to expand modern roadways and flyovers to meet the city’s growing population and traffic demands.
As Bengaluru continues to expand, projects like the Hebbal flyover demonstrate a practical push toward more efficient transportation networks and improved daily commuting experiences.
