Dubai: Is the long-awaited Dubai Fountain opening soon? Not quite yet.

Social media videos, particularly on TikTok, have surfaced showing water being filled at the iconic Downtown Dubai attraction, sparking speculation about a possible reopening. Photos taken by a Gulf News photographer on August 22 also show water in the fountain, further fuelling the buzz online, with many users hinting that the shows may be set to return.

No official reopening date yet

Despite the excitement, Emaar, the developer behind the Dubai Fountain and The Dubai Mall has not confirmed an official reopening date. While October has been widely speculated as the expected timeline, no date has been announced. Gulf News has reached out to Emaar regarding the latest developments and social media posts.

In June, the developer released a video offering a rare look at the massive maintenance work taking place, highlighting the scale of the renovation.

Months of renovation

Located at the base of Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Fountain has been closed since April, when its last show was held. Over the past few months, construction equipment has been visible around the site, with sections of the fountain’s base exposed and repaired.

The latest images and videos now show large sections of the basin filled with water, suggesting progress but also that more work is still required before the attraction can fully reopen.

Major upgrades to the fountain floor

One of the key upgrades is the installation of a new floor. According to Emaar, the old surface would occasionally crack, prompting the need for a stronger, water-resistant base.

The renovation includes:

  • A special waterproofing layer over treated concrete blocks.

  • A primer and insulation system to improve water retention.

  • Blue tiles that will glow beneath the water, enhancing the visual appeal from every angle around the lake.

The lake spans an area roughly the size of 18 football fields. Beneath its surface lies a highly complex system of water jets, robotic arms, and synchronised lighting, all working together to ‘dance’ to music.

For now, the social media clips have sparked curiosity but left questions unanswered. Until Emaar issues an official statement, the exact reopening date of the Dubai Fountain remains unclear.
