Abu Dhabi: Under the Salamt Zadkom Initiative, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has opened registration for a course to train housewives and housemaids on the basics of food safety.

As part of its Year of Zayed initiatives, the course is being offered by eight accredited training institutes that specialise in preparing homemakers for the labour market.

Through the six-hour intensive course, the trainee will be introduced to the most important safe practices for handling food at home, promoting community awareness on food safety issues.

Thamer Rashed Al Qasemi, ADFCA’s spokesperson, said the initiative comes within ADFCA’s activities and efforts to achieve food security and a sustainable agricultural sector.

“The course aims to ensure the highest standards of food safety in Abu Dhabi, providing safe and healthy foods, and protecting the society from food-borne diseases. By using innovative and effective ways to spread sound food practices, the initiative reflects the authority’s role in entrenching Shaikh Zayed’s efforts to develop the nation’s human resources,” Al Qasemi asserted.

“Through this initiative, ADFCA aims to help consumers avoid food contamination and damage, while handling it at home. This is achieved by enabling food handlers with the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain the safety and quality of food,” said Al Qasemi.

ADFCA’s spokesperson added that all who wish to take the course can register with one of the accredited institutes across Abu Dhabi.

“The course will be available in eight different languages to suit the needs of all families. These include Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, Ethiopian, and visual language,” Al Qasemi said.

Through its close partnership with the private sector, ADFCA has trained more than 270,000 food handlers at its licensed training centres across Abu Dhabi.
