More than 29,000 companies now employ Emiratis across UAE private sector
Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that the number of Emiratis working in the private sector has surpassed 152,000, employed across more than 29,000 companies as of 30 June 2025, the deadline for meeting Emiratisation targets for the first half of the year.
MoHRE attributed this achievement to the success of the Nafis programme, highlighting its role in supporting the UAE leadership’s vision to empower Emirati talent and foster a thriving, inclusive economy. The Ministry noted that beyond increasing employment figures, the initiative has also contributed to a more positive perception of private sector careers among UAE nationals. Enhanced competitiveness, skills development, and strategic involvement by Emiratis are helping drive business sustainability and national economic growth.
This milestone reflects the close guidance and vision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council.
MoHRE further reported that the rise in Emirati employment is aligned with the UAE’s continued economic expansion. The private sector saw a 33% growth in new companies entering the labour market in 2024, a testament to the nation’s dynamic development model and investor-friendly environment.
The Ministry commended private companies for actively responding to Emiratisation regulations, recognising their growing awareness of national responsibilities. This cooperation supports the UAE’s long-term strategy to boost citizen participation in economic development and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the labour market.
MoHRE reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining this progress through continued collaboration with the private sector, along with providing incentives to companies that meet or exceed targets. The Nafis programme, through its digital platform, has played a central role by connecting companies with qualified Emirati talent.
Emiratis are currently employed across six major economic sectors: business services, financial intermediation, trade and repair, construction, manufacturing, and other industries. They hold roles in scientific, technical, humanitarian, managerial, and clerical fields.
Further progress is expected in the second half of 2025, with new targets in place. These include a 1% increase in Emiratis in skilled roles at companies with 50 or more employees. Additionally, companies in 14 specified sectors employing 20 to 49 staff must hire at least one Emirati by year-end, provided a suitable working environment is ensured.
MoHRE reminded companies with 50+ employees to meet their targets before 30 June to avoid financial penalties, which are effective from 1 July 2025. These penalties apply to firms that fail to achieve the 1% growth in Emiratis in skilled positions or maintain previous Emiratisation levels.
Emiratis and the public are encouraged to report any violations or practices contradicting Emiratisation policies via the MoHRE call centre (600590000), mobile app, or official website.
MoHRE reiterated its support for companies that comply with Emiratisation policies. Outstanding performers are inducted into the Emiratisation Partners Club, receiving benefits such as up to 80% discounts on MoHRE service fees and priority access to government procurement platforms — offering a substantial boost to business opportunities.
As of the end of May 2025, over 141,000 Emiratis were employed at more than 28,000 private sector companies, demonstrating historic progress in integrating national talent into the UAE's dynamic economy.
