Air India flight aborts take-off midway at high speed due to safety issue
Pilots initiated an emergency braking procedure at approximately 155km/hr on the runway
An Air India flight bound for Kolkata was forced to abort take-off at high speed on Monday evening after a technical fault was detected during acceleration on the runway at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Flight AI2403, operating from New Delhi (DEL) to Kolkata (CCU), was accelerating for departure around 5:30pm when cockpit crew identified a technical anomaly.
Acting swiftly, the pilots initiated an emergency braking procedure at approximately 155km/hr, bringing the aircraft to a controlled stop on the runway.
Air India confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the decision to abort take-off was made in line with Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the safety of all on board.
The airline reported that all passengers disembarked safely and were assisted by ground personnel.
A replacement aircraft was arranged, and the flight was rescheduled for later in the evening.
Air India apologised for the delay and reaffirmed that passenger safety remains its highest priority.
