Dubai: Being overlooked can be painful — and Sarfaraz Khan knows that better than most.

The 27-year-old batter, who made a promising start to his Test career, was left out of India’s squad for the England tour mainly for his fitness issues. The snub was a tough pill to swallow, but instead of letting disappointment define him, Sarfaraz used it as fuel for transformation — quite literally.

In just a few weeks, he shed a remarkable 17kgs, emerging almost unrecognisable in recent photos that have taken social media by storm. The dramatic change is not just physical — it’s a testament to his renewed focus and dedication.

Sarfaraz's weight loss journey began with a complete lifestyle overhaul. Guided by his father and long-time coach, Naushad Khan, he committed to a strict diet and cut out all unhealthy food. “We stopped having roti, rice, sugar, flour, and anything bakery-related,” Naushad told the Hindustan Times. “Our meals now consist of grilled fish, chicken, boiled eggs, fresh salads, broccoli, cucumber, and avocados. We’ve even switched to green tea and green coffee. It’s been a disciplined routine for the past one and a half months.”

Though he missed out on the senior team for the England series, Sarfaraz did make the trip with India A. He impressed immediately, scoring 92 in the first unofficial Test — only to be left out of the next match to accommodate KL Rahul in the playing XI.

But if his recent transformation is anything to go by, Sarfaraz Khan is far from done. He’s just getting started.
