A private university in the capital is set to offer a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
The Ministry of Education on Saturday accredited Alhosn University's degree, the university announced on Sunday.
The university, which was recently established, is supported by Abu Dhabi Holding.
According to the university, the undergraduate degree in industrial engineering was developed to provide students with the knowledge and expertise to determine the most effective ways for an organisation to use the basic factors of production, including people, machines, materials, information and energy to make or process a product.
Alhosn University Vice-President Professor Ziad Saghir believes that students should be educated in engineering by the best possible sources available.
"Industrial engineering is a growing industry in this region and we endeavour to provide students with the best engineering education available," said Saghir.
The mission of the programme, according to him, is to attain excellence in industrial engineering education by providing an accredited undergraduate programme of study in the discipline thus preparing students for successful careers in the field.
Industrial engineering is a specialisation being constantly implemented throughout the UAE.
Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr Hamdi Sheibani said this course provides students with broad knowledge in engineering as well as management.
"This is a very strong course as it is not pure engineering. It also includes studies in management, marketing and economics, therefore organisations will employ graduates with engineering as well as management knowledge," said Dr Sheibani.
Graduates can work in jobs like industrial engineer, systems analyst, production control manager, quality control manager, operations research analyst, industrial cost control manager and manufacturing engineer.
Courses are offered in the faculties of Engineering and Applied Science, Arts and Social Science and Business.
First enrolments at the university will be accepted in September.
The university, according to a statement, will offer positions to only 300 students initially to ensure that students obtain a high level of education.
