From penguin encounters to Expo 2020 Dubai deals, things to do with kids from October 3-9

Schools have reopened for all the tiny tots this week and you know what that means – afterschool activities! Whether you want to introduce your child and her friends to art or adventure, we have you covered. Here’s a look at what’s on this week:

Join ‘Alice in Wonderland’: Rediscover the odd and wonderful world created by Lewis Carroll this week at the stage on the ‘Queen Elizabeth 2’. The story is brought to life by a cast from London’s West End. DETAILS: Tickets for the show, which runs on October 7 at 7pm and October 8 at 10am, start at Dh96.

See Rock the Ballet X dance: Dance troupe and TV programme ‘Dancing with the Stars’ alumni makes its UAE debut with a stint at Dubai Opera. It meshes classical ballet with pop music and modern dance for a visual and auditory treat. DETAILS: Tickets to the show on October 8-9 start at Dh300.

Introduce your child to ‘Grease’: Head to Zero Gravity tonight for a screening while you lounge in the Cinema on the Sand section on beanbags or sun loungers. DETAILS: Entry is Dh75, which is fully redeemable on food and drinks.

Check out the ‘Women of Ferrari’ exhibit: Have a petrol-head on your hands? Check out this exhibit, which journeys through the history of female race drivers and the notable ‘Women of Ferrari’. Plus, there are cool cars including La Ferrari, the 458 Challenge, the F4, the FF and the 166 Berlinetta up for show. Girls can head to the Family Zone and enjoy all four miniature versions of Ferrari World’s most iconic and record-breaking rides, while mothers and daughters can pair up for Benno’s Great Race, Junior Grand Prix racing school and Karting Academy. Head to Expo 2020: Of course the World’s Greatest Show has much to offer including the music festival Expo Beats, which kicks off this Friday. To start things off in spectacular fashion, Dubai-based star Niki Mukhi will be belting out original tunes inspired by Flamenco harmonies, Indian Classical ragas and West African sounds. Listen to Atif Aslam perform: Are you a music lover? Check out Pakistani playback singer and composer perform his hits, from ‘Jeena Jeena’ to ‘Kuch Is Tarah’, at Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre. DETAILS: Entry is free for those with an Expo 2020 ticket.

Meet the penguins: Check out Ski Dubai’s colony of King and Gentoo Penguins. Every day, a March of the Penguins is held in the Snow Park – visitors can not only watch these cool birds, they can join in their training sessions too! DETAILS: 230 per person for up to 40-minutes of edutainment.

Watch a movie: ‘Dune’, featuring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, tells the story of the brilliant Paul Atreides who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.

Enjoy a spark of adventure at Aventura Parks: This fun-filled play spot is perfect for kids and adults alike. Here you can navigate circuits that are created for differing ages and stages of agility. There are six circuits of over 80 obstacles and zip lines – and it’s all set in a beautiful Ghaf tree forest in the heart of Dubai. DETAILS: Tickets start at Dh10 for park visitors.

Little artists can find their muse at the jamjar: Art and exploration go hand in hand at the workshops for little ones aged one-to-three- years old at the jamjar in AlSerkal Avenue. The Toddlers Artsploration has kids explore colours and textures together while listening to some tunes and practicing their motor skills. DETAILS: Dh105 for the 10.30am-11.15am class.
