Rent an e-scooter with a nol card by linking it via NFC technology on your smartphone
Dubai: Renting an e-scooter for a ride along the beach or one of Dubai’s many scenic walkways, such as the Dubai Canal, has become even more convenient. As of December 2024, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that nol cards can now be used to pay for e-scooter rentals. This initiative expands the many ways nol cards can be used beyond public transport payments.
To take advantage of this feature, you must use the ‘nol Pay’ app, an official RTA application designed to simplify commuting for Dubai residents, commuters, and tourists. Through the app, you can top up your nol card, add travel passes, and even apply for a virtual nol card (available for Samsung and Huawei users).
The nol card has been integrated into Dubai’s e-scooter payment system, particularly in key locations near public transport stations. You can now use your nol card as a payment method on authorised e-scooter operator apps to purchase ride packages - whether hourly, daily, or monthly by linking your nol card via NFC (Near Field Communication) technology on your smartphone. Here’s how:
Download the e-scooter operator app (Tier, Lime, or Skurtt, depending on the rental provider available in your area).
Select your preferred ride package.
Pay using your nol Pay app.
Tap your phone on the nol card reader for the NFC transaction to be processed.
Scan the QR code on the nearest e-scooter to activate it.
Start your ride and enjoy your journey.
To rent an e-scooter in Dubai, follow these steps:
Download one of the four official e-scooter operator apps: Tier, Skurtt, Arnab, or Lime. These are available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Ensure your smartphone is connected to the internet, as you will need it for unlocking and using the e-scooter.
Open the operator’s app and use the built-in map to locate an available e-scooter nearby. If no scooters appear, zoom out to widen your search area.
If your smartphone battery dies or you encounter issues ending your ride, park the e-scooter in a designated area and immediately contact the operator’s customer service for assistance.
To ensure safety while riding an e-scooter in Dubai, the following rules and regulations must be followed:
Riders must be at least 16 years old.
Always wear a protective helmet, appropriate gear, and suitable footwear.
Park only in designated parking zones.

E-scooters must be manufactured to suit UAE’s climate and conditions.
They must comply with the official specifications and standards set by UAE authorities.
