Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai has enhanced its payment options for electric scooter users by adding the Nol card as a new method of payment.

The service is now available for e-scooters operated by RTA-accredited providers throughout the emirate. The expansion is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to improve transportation services and supports Dubai’s broader vision of a cashless economy, solidifying the Nol card as a versatile and convenient payment solution across Dubai and the UAE.

Salahuddin Al Marzooqi, Director of Automated Collection Systems at RTA’s Corporate Technology Support Sector, commented: “We initially integrated the Nol card into the payment system for electric scooters in key locations, particularly around public transport hubs.

Last-mile connectivity

Al Marzooqi further explained that the Nol card is now accepted on all authorised electric scooter operator apps. Users can purchase various packages — hourly, daily, or monthly — by linking their Nol Card via NFC technology on their smartphones.

Benefits of Nol card

The Nol card, which is already widely used for public transport services including metro, buses, trams, and marine transport, can now also be used for private services like taxis, the Monorail at the Palm Jumeirah, and electric scooters. Beyond transportation, the Nol card is also accepted for public parking, retail purchases, and entry to various public facilities such as museums and clubs.

To further encourage public transport adoption, RTA has introduced special Nol packages tailored to different segments of society. These include the Nol Student packages and Nol Travel Packages, offering discounts and promotions across sectors like dining, shopping, entertainment, hotels, and airlines.

Upgrade
In addition to these enhancements, RTA is upgrading the Nol system from traditional card-based ticketing to a modern, account-based system. This new system follows global best practices in electronic and financial security, aiming to improve operational efficiency and maximise the potential of the data generated. The upgrade will also introduce innovative features such as trip planning, booking, and pre-payment through smart channels, further contributing to the growth of Dubai’s smart mobility ecosystem.
