The look: Lip Lock

Super-glam, super-bright and smear-free – here’s how to get the season’s bold pout and matte skin combo minus any summer-smudginess

How to make it last

1. Get a flawless face to last all day by starting with an oil-free foundation, set with pressed powder. If under-eye shadows and redness are an issue, try Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer Kit (Dh177), which colour-corrects as it covers imperfections. Use the darker shade to disguise any circles or veins under the eyes and the lighter shade on top to illuminate and brighten the eye area.

2. Applying a powder blush over a matte base will make your make-up look cakey. Use a cream blush over powder for a rosy glow that lasts. We love Bésame Crimson Cream Rouge blush. Just dab on with your fingers and blend out for a gentle flush.

3. As the lips are the focal point, keep the eyes subtle (but still smudge-proof) with two coats of Maybelline Colossal Smoky Mascara, which lasts for hours and doesn’t melt.

4. “For a hot-weather perfect bright lip, don’t use a gloss – it will slip off straight away,” says Max Factor’s regional make-up artist, Samira Olfat. “Opt for a long-lasting creamy lipstick, or a matte formula.” Start with a specific lip primer like the one by Too Faced (Dh90, Sephora). These are lip balms-cum-sealers that ensure the lipstick adheres to the lip longer and doesn’t bleed. Follow with a waterproof lip liner to outline and fill in the lip for extra staying power. Apply your lipstick with a brush for precision and colour longevity, and blot three times with a tissue. Finish with a little loose powder if required.

The look: Keeping it Classic

How to make it last

1. Ensure your base will stay put by applying a full-coverage foundation from the centre of the face outwards. Make sure you blend right into the hairline so you can’t see any lines.

2. Perk up tired eyes with an illuminating concealer like YSL’S classic Touche Éclat (Dh189). Set with a loose powder, then buff a long-lasting blusher on to the apples of the cheek, moving outwards towards the cheekbones. We love Merle Norman Lasting CheekColor in Queen of Hearts.

3. For smoky-eye staying power draw an imperfect line along the lashes and a little of the lid with a highly pigmented kohl pencil – try Maybelline’s Colossal Kajal (Dh25). Using your ring finger, blend the liner upwards towards the crease of your eye for a smoky look. “To make this look last, try using a creamy neutral-toned eyeshadow on the lid first, as this acts as a primer and helps hold the liner in place,” says Samira. Re-line the eye, this time being careful to stay close to the top lashes, for definition. Apply one coat of Max Factor’s 24 Hour Mascara for a natural look that works overtime.

4. Enhance your natural brows with a waterproof pencil or a brow powder to add definition and depth. Top off with a coat of brow mascara for extra staying power – we love Merle Norman’s Brow Sealer (Dh39).

How to make it last

1.

2. Apply a long-lasting concealer to cover dark under-eye circles and highlight the high planes of the face like Dolce & Gabbana’s Perfect Matte Concealer (Dh190, Paris Gallery). Start right under the eye, using a pat and roll movement with your ring finger to blend in. Then draw on above the cheekbone, where you apply bronzer, along the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s bow and chin.

3. Using a dual-toned bronzer, apply the darker shade in the hollows of your cheeks to define, stroking out towards the hairline, then use the lighter shade right on the cheekbone to highlight, blending to ensure there are no harsh lines between the two.

4. Dust loose translucent powder over the face, and apply a little with a shadow brush to your lashes too – this is a top tip that will make your mascara last longer.

5. Instantly brighten eyes using a light pink or white liner on the waterline, and work a toffee-coloured, waterproof eyeshadow over the lid, intensifying the colour at the crease and under the lashes. Finish off with two coats of smudge-proof dark brown mascara for a naturally beautiful flutter.

6. Finish with a slick of hydrating lip balm that looks natural and polished. Easy!

The look: Bare Necessities

How to make it last

1. This look is all about a flawless, mattified face, so if your skin is prone to shine, a powder foundation is a great investment – we love Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Compact Foundation, which gives great coverage and really does last. Be sure to carry around some Tatcha Beauty blotting paper for last-minute touch-ups.

2. Keep the eyes looking natural with a neutral wash of buff-toned eyeshadow all over the lid, blending out to the crease. Look for a long-wear, creamy shadow paint or pencil for the sheerest of long-lasting colour. We like Clinique’s Chubby Shadow Sticks, Dh97.

3. Wing out the lashes with two coats of waterproof mascara. Wipe off any excess mascara on the wand, and gently roll it out from the base to the tip of the lower lashes to curl them. This opens up and brightens the eyes.
