Dubai: Police investigating the mysterious death of model and actress Humaira Asghar Ali have recovered data from her electronic devices, using passwords found in a personal diary discovered beside her decomposing body.

Humaira, 32, was found dead on July 8 in her rented apartment in Defence Phase VI, where she had been living alone for seven years. Her body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition when a court-appointed bailiff, executing an eviction order over unpaid rent, forced entry into the locked apartment with police present.

Investigators said the discovery of handwritten passwords in her diary allowed them to access three smartphones, a tablet, and a laptop. These devices are now central to uncovering the circumstances surrounding her death, according to reports in Pakistani media.

Digital and forensic investigation

Officials revealed that preliminary digital analysis indicated no communication from the actress since October 2024. Her last known activity includes messages from a ride-hailing service and a WhatsApp status that remained unchanged since October 7, 2024. A message sent by stylist Danish Maqsood on October 20 remained unread.

The expiry dates on food items in her refrigerator, along with disconnected electricity due to unpaid bills, all suggest she may have died late last year.

“Both SIMs in her phones were inactive since October. The body’s condition also suggests a possible death timeline from that period,” said Asad Raza, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police for South Karachi.

Initial post-mortem

Initial posst-mortem findings by police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed severe decomposition, making it difficult to establish a cause of death. DNA and chemical samples have been collected, with toxicology and forensic tests pending.

While no external injuries or signs of forced entry were found, police are not ruling out any possibility. The adjacent flat was unoccupied, which may explain why neighbors did not report any odor or unusual activity.

Bank accounts

Authorities are also analysing Humaira’s bank accounts, transaction history, and call logs. Her contact list, described as “small and selective,” indicates a tight-knit circle. Two individuals have already recorded statements, with two more summoned for questioning. Police plan to interview her gym trainer, beautician, and other acquaintances to help reconstruct her final days.

Fame and isolation

Humaira Asghar rose to fame through reality show Tamasha Ghar and her role in the film Jalaibee, amassing a large following on TikTok and Instagram. Despite her public persona, she reportedly led a reclusive life in recent years, only appearing in public for work-related events.

Her isolation has raised questions about the lack of social safety nets for public figures. Tragically, her disappearance went unnoticed for months.
