The tragedy, that has rattled the industry, continues to stoke several questions
Dubai: The sudden and tragic death of Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali has left many shocked and searching for answers. Her decomposed body was found earlier this week inside her locked apartment in Karachi.
As questions swirl about what happened, her family has stepped forward to set the record straight — and to call for a fair, transparent investigation.
Despite some media reports suggesting a family rift, Humaira’s brother Naveed Asghar has firmly denied any estrangement. Speaking to journalists in Karachi, he said:
“It is incorrect to say we severed ties with her. For the past three days, we were coordinating with the police and Chhipa Foundation to release her body.”
Naveed explained that the family had recently experienced a personal tragedy — the death of a younger aunt in a road accident — which delayed their response. He also clarified that while they hadn’t been in regular contact with Humaira, they had made efforts to reach her over the past year.
According to police sources quoted in The Express Tribune:
Humaira had not been in contact with anyone since October 2024
Her apartment was locked from the inside
Two mobile phones were recovered from the scene and are undergoing forensic testing
A third phone is suspected to be missing
No suspects have been identified so far, and initial findings show no signs of foul play. However, the chemical analysis report from the post-mortem is still pending, and the investigation remains open.
Naveed has called for less speculation and more focus on facts. He questioned why no one checked on her earlier and why the building lacked basic security features like CCTV.
“Instead of speculating about our family, ask why the landlord didn’t check on her sooner... We want the full truth,” he said.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has pledged that the state will bear the cost of Humaira’s funeral, stating:
“She was not abandoned or alone. Like all citizens of Sindh, she was my sister.”
Sindh’s Culture and Tourism Minister, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, also offered support, calling attention to the broader social impact of a woman dying unnoticed in a major city.
Humaira was last active in October 2024
Her body was found in a locked apartment in DHA Phase 6, Karachi
Two phones were recovered; one more may be missing
No CCTV footage or suspects have been confirmed
Post-mortem and DNA tests are underway
The family has claimed her body and denied rumours of estrangement
The investigation is ongoing
Humaira Asghar Ali was more than a headline. She was part of Pakistan’s entertainment world and chose to live independently — a choice that, in many societies, still comes with judgment and risk. Her death has sparked conversations about isolation, safety, and how women living alone are often overlooked.
As the investigation continues, her family and supporters are hoping for one thing: truth, dignity, and justice.
