The show combines the soul of 80s Bollywood with the spectacle of global theatre
Dubai: After lighting up London’s West End and delivering a blockbuster run in Mumbai, the iconic Carvaan Live's Disco Dancer – The Musical, made famous by Mithun Chakraborth's Jimmy act, will be staged at Dubai Opera on September 12 and 13.
Produced by Saregama, this is more than a musical – it’s a celebration of music, memories and the magic of Indian cinema on an international stage.
At its heart, Disco Dancer – The Musical tells the rags-to-riches story of Jimmy, originally played by Chakraborty – a street performer from the slums of Bombay who dares to dream big.
After being humiliated and forced to leave the city with his mother, Jimmy rises from nothing to become a national sensation, a disco legend whose stardom is threatened by enemies from his past. It’s a story of grit, glory and the power of music to transform lives.
Reimagined for today’s audiences, this musical tribute to the 1982 cult classic is packed with high-octane choreography, vibrant costumes and a brand-new live score reinterpreted by Salim–Sulaiman. The show combines the soul of 80s Bollywood with the spectacle of global theatre.
From Jimmy Jimmy to Yaad Aa Raha Hai, every song is a highlight. Whether you grew up dancing to these tracks or are discovering them for the first time, the energy is irresistible.
Taking center stage are talents Arjun Tanwar as Jimmy and Pragati Nagpal as Kim, who bring unmatched energy and freshness to their roles. They are joined by Varun Tewari as Sam Oberoi, whose powerful performance rounds out the trio.
“Disco Dancer – The Musical is our love letter to the 80s,” says Siddharth Anand Kumar, Executive Vice President at Saregama India Ltd.
“It’s a celebration of a time when disco ruled our playlists and everything felt possible. What makes it special is how it connects generations, those who lived through the magic of the 80s will feel right at home, and the younger crowd gets to experience that iconic era in a fresh, fun way. After packed shows in London and Mumbai, Dubai felt like the perfect next stop. It’s a city that loves big, bold entertainment, and this show brings all that, with heart.”
So make sure to bring your family, your friends and your inner disco soul.
