Look! Hollywood celebrities Brad Pitt, Ben Stiller, Bradley Cooper, Rami Malek, Alec Baldwin and Spike Lee watch Daniil Medvedev beat Novak Djokovic in US Open final

Full house! Fans cheer on for Daniil Medvedev of Russia and Novak Djokovic of Serbia during their Men's Singles final match on Day Fourteen of the 2021 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City.

Big match... 34-year-old Djokovic was chasing a record 21st Grand Slam men's title and victory would have moved him clear of rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the battle to finish with the most men's majors.

All to play for... World number one Djokovic had already won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon titles this year.

Seeing red... But Medvedev won his first Grand Slam title by shattering Djokovic's hopes of completing a calendar sweep of the majors in a one-sided US Open final.

Watching the fascinating final were a host Hollywood celebrities including actors Joseph Mazzello (left) and Rami Malek. Malek won an Oscar for his portrayal of Queen icon Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, and will be next seen on the big screen in the new James Bond movie No Time To Die.

63-year-old actor Alec Baldwin was also in attendance. He is known for being in some of the biggest films and television series, including Beetlejuice, 30 Rock, and Saturday Night Live.

Spike Lee, the American film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and professor was also there.

Missed chance... Djokovic had been bidding to become just the sixth player to win a calendar Slam and the first man to do it since Rod Laver in 1969.

The Night at the Museum star Ben Stiller also graced the event with his presence with his wife Christine Taylor who is also an actor.

Second seed Medvedev had lost his two last Grand Slam finals but showed plenty of composure to win 6-4 6-4 6-4 and ruin Djokovic's party.

A-listers... Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper were spotted at the event enjoying the thrilling final.

Blast from the past... Even 5-times Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova attended the match.

Knocked out! Medvedev said his falling to the floor celebration was inspired by football video game Fifa. "Only legends will understand what I did, it was L2 + left," he said.

He was awarded the championship trophy by former tenner player, Stan Smith. "I want to thank my team, those who are here and watching. My parents, my family, my sisters. Some of my friends are here too," said Medvedev.

After the match Djokovic, while welling up, told the crowd, "Even though I haven't won the match I am the happiest man alive because you guys made me very special on the court. You guys touched my soul. I've never felt like this in New York. Thank you for your support. I love you."
