The operation was a precaution to safeguard the lives of Pakistani nationals in Iran
Pakistan has successfully repatriated hundreds of its students and pilgrims from Iran following recent Israeli airstrikes that heightened tensions in the region. Officials confirmed on Tuesday (June 17) that the returnees were first brought to Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, which borders Iran. From there, arrangements are being made to transport them to their respective hometowns across Pakistan.
The repatriation effort was launched as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of Pakistani nationals amid the growing instability caused by Israeli strikes in Iran. Authorities moved swiftly to mitigate any potential risks to citizens stranded in the affected areas.
Quetta Commissioner Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat stated that the government prioritized the evacuation by overcoming visa delays and logistical hurdles. "Our primary concern was the safety of our people. We coordinated closely with border officials to facilitate their smooth movement to the Taftan crossing," he said.
The Pakistani government has been closely monitoring the regional developments and is prepared to take further steps to safeguard its citizens abroad. This operation underscores the state's commitment to protecting its nationals during international crises.
