France wildfire leaves trail of destruction on outskirts of Marseille

Still smoldering debris and the charred remains of homes mark trail of destruction

A wildfire in Marseille, France's second largest city, swept through 750 hectares of land, affecting at least 70 homes of which 10 were destroyed. There were no human casualties.

Some 700 firefighters were on duty on Wednesday morning, with helicopters dumping water from the air to help their colleagues on the ground.
