Woman held after husband found mutilated in Haryana home

A woman in Haryana’s Kurukshetra has been accused of killing her husband and mutilating his body before jumping from the terrace of their rented home after their landlord discovered the scene, police said.

The victim, identified as Rajesh, had been living with his wife, Vimla Devi, in a rented house near Raj Palace on Pehowa Road. The couple reportedly had an argument at around 5pm before the incident.

Their landlord, Rinku, told police that he heard the couple arguing and went to check what was happening. When he reached the terrace, he allegedly found Rajesh lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries to his abdomen.

According to a report cited by IANS, Vimla was allegedly attempting to place her husband’s protruding intestines in a bag when the landlord arrived. She then reportedly jumped from the terrace.

She survived the fall but sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police await wife’s statement

Investigators are waiting to record Vimla’s statement and hope it will help establish the sequence of events and possible motive behind the killing.

Rajesh was originally from Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district and had been living with his wife in Kurukshetra for nearly a year. He worked in the supply department of a water trading company on Pehowa Road.

A post-mortem examination found extensive injuries to his body, including an incision of about 35cm across the abdomen and several deep wounds suspected to have been caused by sharp weapons.

Investigators also found that part of his liver and his right kidney were missing. Police are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding this finding and whether the organs were removed during the attack.

Three knives recovered

Police recovered three knives of different sizes from the scene.

A team led by Station House Officer Surinder Singh reached the rented house after being alerted to the incident, while forensic specialists examined the scene and collected evidence.

The landlord has claimed that Vimla practised traditional healing and activities related to exorcism and that arguments between the couple were frequent. Police have not established whether those claims have any connection to the killing.

The couple had been married for several years and had no children.

Investigators are examining their relationship, previous disputes and other circumstances that could help establish what led to the attack.
