Dubai: Three men were arrested for stalking a Delhi woman on Tuesday. The surprise twist in this plot? They were private detectives hired by her husband, to investigate if she had an affair.
According to the Deputy commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Madhur Verma, three men were arrested on the charges of stalking, after a woman filed a case at the Tughlak Road police station. The statement was issued on Tuesday, according to the Indian daily Hindustan Times. The police identified the three individuals as Hemant Aggarwal, 28, Babar Ali, 19 and Amit, 22. Police confirmed that Aggarwal ran a private detective agency, in East Delhi’s Shahdara, with two of his associates.
“During questioning, they identified themselves as private detectives and claimed that they were hired by the woman’s husband to spy on her. The husband was called in and he admitted that he had hired them four days ago, as he suspected that his wife was cheating on him,” an officer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
On January 22, the woman left her home in the Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh neighbourhood to go shopping and meet her friends. She soon noticed the three men following her from the busy Khan Market and around the Connaught Place area, and felt disturbed.
When she again noticed the men at a hotel in Chanakyapuri, where she had gone to meet a friend over lunch, she panicked and quickly called her family, who arrived at the scene and caught the stalkers. Alerted to the commotion, one of the shopkeepers informed the police.
Social media mostly had contempt for the lousy investigative skills of the detectives.
Rohan Gulathi posted on Facebook: “Nothing wrong in getting a detective, with the way the world is running. Trust issues and cheating are so common, hiring a detective seems okay. But get a good detective agency.”
