A shocking tragedy unfolded at Duduma Waterfall, under Machkund police limits in Odisha’s Koraput district, when a 22-year-old YouTuber was swept away while filming a social media reel.
The victim, identified as Sagar Kundu, had gone to the popular tourist spot with friends to shoot content. In the viral video, Kundu is seen posing on slippery rocks near the mighty waterfall before losing his footing. Within seconds, he was engulfed by the powerful current, as his friends’ desperate cries echoed in the background.
Authorities swiftly launched a rescue operation, deploying divers and search teams to comb the turbulent waters. However, as of the latest update, his body had not been recovered, raising fresh concerns about visitor safety at such natural attractions.
The incident has sparked widespread debate across social media. While many expressed grief and condolences for Kundu’s family, others criticised the growing culture of risk-taking for viral fame. The tragedy has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of safety measures at hazardous tourist destinations like Duduma, notorious for its unpredictable currents and lack of protective infrastructure.
Kundu, a rising digital creator from Odisha, had been gradually building his online following. His untimely death is now serving as a sobering reminder of the dangers lurking behind seemingly adventurous videos. For many, the viral clip is not just another fleeting story—it has become a cautionary tale about responsibility, both in content creation and in ensuring personal safety.
