India: Man murders three family members, walks to police station to surrender in Bengaluru

Dubai: Bengaluru witnessed a chilling crime on Wednesday evening when a 42-year-old Home Guard allegedly murdered his wife, daughter and niece in a fit of rage before calmly surrendering at the local police station, machete in hand, Indian media reports said.

The accused, identified as Gangaraju, a resident of Chokkasandra near Jalahalli Cross in north Bengaluru, called the emergency helpline 112 around 4pm and confessed to the killings.

By the time police patrols reached his home, they found the lifeless bodies of his wife Bhagya (36), daughter Navya (19) and niece Hemavathi (23), lying in pools of blood, The Indian Express said.

Gangaraju, however, was not at the scene.

Minutes later, Gangaraju walked into Peenya police station carrying the blood-stained machete and admitted to the murders. He was arrested and charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to investigators, Gangaraju, who was posted at the Hebbagodi police station, frequently fought with his wife over suspicions of infidelity.

On Wednesday, the argument escalated violently. When Navya and Hemavathi intervened to defend Bhagya, Gangaraju’s rage reportedly spiraled out of control, leading him to attack all three with the machete.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Saidulu Adavath, stated that forensic experts have collected evidence from the crime scene. “The accused has surrendered, and we are investigating the motive further. Suspicions about his wife’s affair appear to be the trigger, but details are yet to be confirmed,” he said.

Gangaraju, originally from Nelamangala, had been living in a rented house in Bengaluru.
