One man has died and up to five others were hospitalized with injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening following a shooting in Toronto on Tuesday evening.
Police have not released any information about potential suspects. A command post has been set up near the intersection of Ranee Avenue and Flemington Road as the investigation continues.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed concern over the incident, calling the reports from the Lawrence Heights area "disturbing." In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), she said her office is coordinating with Toronto Police and Deputy Mayor Mike Colle.
"I want to thank the first responders - Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic services for your work on a very busy and challenging scene" Chow said, noting that police are expected to share more details soon.
