Dubai – The UAE is set to play a central role in global healthcare by chairing the World Health Organisation’s Eastern Mediterranean Region’s launch of the State of the World’s Nursing 2025 (SoWN) report on 12 May 2025.

The event aligns with International Nurses Day and the global theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies.”

Part of the WHO’s global campaign and held in collaboration with the International Council of Nurses (ICN), the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, and Emirates Health Services, the virtual event highlights the nation’s leadership in shaping regional and global health policy.

Chaired by the UAE under the “Race for Excellence” initiative, the report launch serves as a strategic platform showcasing the country’s growing influence in healthcare innovation, policy development, and sustainable systems. The event underscores the UAE’s commitment to empowering nurses and promoting high-quality, inclusive care as part of its national development vision.

The UAE’s leadership role in this international event is a direct reflection of its forward-thinking health strategy, guided by its wise leadership’s focus on quality of life and innovation. The initiative supports the national goals of ‘We the UAE 2031,’ which aims to position the UAE as a global benchmark in healthcare outcomes.

Comprehensive analysis

The SoWN 2025 report, the second in its series after 2020, provides a comprehensive analysis of the nursing workforce, spotlighting the UAE’s model of best practices and innovations in specialised nursing programmes. It also identifies critical post-pandemic gaps and outlines strategies to build resilient, universal healthcare systems.

As the selected host for this regional event, the UAE affirms its status as a hub for global healthcare collaboration. A high-level expert panel will discuss the report’s key findings and their implications for the region.

Coinciding with the UAE Year of Community 2025, the event reinforces national efforts to build a skilled, sustainable nursing workforce capable of driving socio-economic growth and meeting future health needs.
