Dubai: Arrangements for the funeral of former Arab triathlon champion Roy Nasr, who died in a road accident while on a training ride near Safa Park early Friday morning, are under way.

Nasr, 49, died on impact when a drunk driver hit him from behind while cycling near Safa Park towards Meydan. A fellow rider suffered from moderate injuries in the crash. The driver is now in police custody.

A source close to the family told Gulf News the funeral rites for the well-loved triathlete will be held at 2pm on Tuesday at St Francis of Assisi Church in Jebel Ali. The family is waiting for other family members to arrive in Dubai from Lebanon before proceeding with the funeral service.

A location is being arranged for the family to receive friends and colleagues who wish to express their condolences, details of which were not available at the time of going to press.

Nasr, who was chief operating officer of catering firm Abela and Co and co-founder of TriDubai, is survived by his wife, Tina, and two children, Tala and Elie.
