Dubai: Cycling, roller-skating and skateboarding are not allowed at the Dubai Water Canal Boardwalk, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday.

RTA has also banned pets, making campfire or barbequing near the boardwalk, as part of a set of instructions to monitor the safety and security of canal visitors.

Jumping on the side rails and dumping of waste will also attract legal action.

Nabeel Mohammad Saleh, Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, called on visitors to the canal to follow the instructions that are posted on the boards near the boardwalk.

“One of our priorities is to maintain the safety of visitors of the Dubai Water Canal. The canal is a landmark that contributes to promoting the economy, investment and tourism in Dubai and maintaining environmental safety in Dubai Creek, which is the lifeline of commercial and maritime business of the city,” said Saleh.

Smoking shisha, dressing in skimpy cloths and spitting on the boardwalk are also prohibited.

Saleh also urged visitors not to leave their children under the age of 12 unattended for their own safety.
