Sharjah Charity to fund 50 heart surgeries for children in Bangladesh

Dubai: During the special days of Dhu Al Hijja, Sharjah Charity International has launched a compassionate initiative called "Little Hearts", aimed at saving the lives of children in Bangladesh suffering from severe heart conditions. The charity will fund 50 life-saving heart surgeries, each costing Dh5,000, with a total project budget of Dh250,000.

The surgeries—including catheter-based procedures and open-heart operations—are being performed by a volunteer medical team led by Dr. Ahmed Al Kamali, a pediatric cardiologist at Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Dr. Al Kamali and his team are giving hope and healing to young lives.

Ali Mohammed Al Rashdi, Head of Foreign Aid at Sharjah Charity International, described Little Hearts as one of their most meaningful health initiatives.

“We’re not just doing surgeries—we’re giving children a new chance at life,” he said. “We’re giving them back their right to be kids—to play, learn, and dream.”

Ongoing commitment to global aid

This is not the first time the charity has undertaken such work. It regularly extends help to those in need, particularly in regions lacking proper medical infrastructure.

Al Rashdi explained that the selection process for the children is rigorous, carried out in partnership with trusted local organisations to ensure the procedures are performed in accredited hospitals.

Al Rashdi also encouraged the public to support the initiative. Donations can be made through the charity’s website, via interactive kiosks in malls and public areas, or by texting the word “Heart” to the charity’s dedicated SMS numbers.
