Gulf News visits Al-Qadar Furniture Factory located at Industrial Area 2 in Sharjah to get first-hand knowledge of making home furniture.

As you enter a furniture factory, you will see piles of wooden planks, plywood and various machines with carpenters busy making tailor-made furniture. Selecting proper wood material is utmost important for the quality of furniture.

The morning work starts with giving assignments to workers in different sections. They are given raw material including wood, plywood, foam, cloth and other material to complete their task.

Carpenter Razzaq cuts wood into different shapes as per the design given to him to make a sofa set.

Ridha cuts sides of a wooden plank for a sofa. He cuts and shapes the wood on a saw for the required product such a sofa or a wardrobe or bed.

Carpenter Razzaq is busy on the table saw. Different types of machines are used to cut and shape wood such as table saws, coping saws, jigsaws, routers, chisel and circular saws

Selected cloth is cut according to the design of a sofa and then stitched by Abdul Waheed while the carpenters prepare the wooden frame of the safa.

Painting furniture is yet another important jon. Any piece of furniture is painted in the paint section before it is takes final shape. A painter makes sure to match the colour chosen by a customer.

Fixing handles and hooks comes during the final stages of making a chest of draws or a cupboard.

Final product. It takes only a few hours to carpenters to prepare a custom-made sofa which is also delivered to a customer's house any where in the UAE.
