Abu Dhabi: The dangers of drug abuse and the availability of rehabilitation facilities will be discussed tomorrow (Wednesday) as part of a new awareness campaign launched by the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC).

In a statement sent today, the NRC, which works to prevent addiction and provides treatment and rehabilitation for addicts, said it would educate residents through text messages as well as events across all emirates and the Middle East. A number of activities will also be geared to help children avoid addiction to harmful substances.

Dr Hamad Al Ghaferi, general manager at the NRC, said the initiative, titled “Stay with Us, Your Life is Precious”, was introduced in line with the centre’s responsibility to educate the public about the negative effects of drug abuse on individuals, families, societies, and even economies.

The two-week campaign commemorates the United Nation’s International Day against Drug Abuse, which is marked annually on June 26.
