Sharjah: A nine-year-old Arab boy tragically lost his life in a collision with a vehicle while crossing the road on an electric scooter, according to Sharjah Police.

The accident occurred on Thursday morning in the Al Falj area in Sharjah when the child was struck by a speeding vehicle. The police's operations room received an emergency call reporting that the boy, who was riding the scooter, had sustained severe injuries in the crash.

Traffic patrols and national ambulance teams quickly arrived at the scene and found the boy with serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver responsible for the incident has been arrested and taken into Wasit Police custody for questioning. Initial investigations revealed that the child was crossing the road when the accident occurred. Police are continuing their investigation.

This tragedy comes shortly after the Sharjah Traffic and Patrols Department launched an extensive campaign to regulate the use of electric scooters, motorcycles, and bicycles on main roads and in pedestrian areas.
