The woman died instantly at the scene from her stab wounds.

The murder happened at around 11am when the victim was waiting near a school bus and children were coming out of the bus.

According to police, initial investigation revealed that the woman, who used to live with the man left the marriage a few days before the crime.

Renjith called Soniya over the phone and he argued with her before appearing in front of the school on the morning he killed her. He started arguing with her again near the school bus before he produced a knife in his hand and then repeatedly stabbed her to death in front of bystanders at the scene.

The man cut his wrist and he waited nearby until police reached the crime scene.

A school teacher told Gulf News that the couple originally hailed from Kerala and came to the UAE about 18 months ago.

Another teacher in a school located in the area told Gulf News that many school children where going on trip on the day the incident occured.

“We came from our trip and we saw police cars in the area,” the teacher said.

Police instructed the school’s staff to take the children inside and to stay there until all was clear.

“It was scary as this is the first time such an incident happened,” the teacher said.

The teacher added it was difficult to explain to the school children why the police were present after the man had murdered his wife.

The two bodies of the man and his wife are at a police morgue.
