Two men arrested after attempting to flee on spotting police
Abu Dhabi: Two drug peddlers were arrested in Abu Dhabi after they were found to be in possession of heroin, which they had concealed in secret pockets in leather sandals, the Ministry of Interior said.
Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, Chief of the Anti-Drug Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Abu Dhabi Police said that the Asian suspects were apprehended in Shahama in Abu dDhabi after getting off a taxi on their way from another emirate.
The official revealed that authorities received at tip-off about the suspects, A.S., 44, and N.M., 24, leading to their along with 1.448kg of heroin.
The heroin was hidden in a pair of sandals, which one of the men was carrying in a plastic bag, at the time of his arrest as they attempted to flee on seeing police officials.
In December of last year, an African woman was arrested at the Abu Dhabi International Airport while trying to smuggle 13kg of drugs which she had reportedly hidden inside dumbels and clothing buttons.
Before that, police arrested 13 of the most wanted drug peddlers and distributors in the country along with 54,000 pills of narcotics and 3.25kg of Hashish.
In another case, two Asian men who allegedly attempted to smuggle clothes filled with illegal substances into correctional facilities were also apprehended.
