Dubai: The Premier League returned with a weekend packed with surprises, late drama and some remarkable numbers.

From historic wins to record-breaking defensive performances, the opening round produced plenty of statistics that tell their own story.

The Tigers produced one of the biggest shocks of the opening weekend, beating Manchester United 2-0 on their return to the Premier League. It was Hull's first league victory over United in 52 years, with their previous win coming in 1974.

John Egan was central to the victory, making 18 clearances which made him the first player to do so in a Premier League match against United across the last 10 seasons.

Jack Clarke’s 90th-minute winner gave Ipswich a victory in their opening Premier League match, marking the club’s first winning start to a league campaign since the 1993-94 season.

The Bees ended a remarkable 78-year wait for a home league victory over Spurs, cruising to a 3-0 win. The Bees were hugely superior in front of goal, registering 3.96 expected goals compared with Tottenham's 0.47.

The victory also extended City's remarkable home record against Bournemouth. City have now won all 10 of their Premier League home meetings with Bournemouth, maintaining a 100% winning record at the Etihad.

The Toffees made a winning start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opening the scoring before Thierno Barry headed in the second.

The victory was particularly ended a five-year wait for an opening-day league win.

After racing into a 4-0 lead against Aston Villa after just 31 minutes, Brighton have the fastest four-goal start to a Premier League season opener since Manchester United went 4-0 up against Fulham in just 19 minutes in 2006-07.

Joao Gomes became the first player to receive a first half red card on his Premier League debut for a club since Queens Park Rangers' Samba Diakité against Fulham in February 2012.

Anthony Elanga's goal at 4:11 was the earliest that Liverpool conceded in their opening game of a Premier League season.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s 98:06 penalty was the fifth-latest equaliser to earn a point in Premier League history. Liverpool have now featured twice in the top five, with Dirk Kuyt previously scoring a penalty at 101:48 against Arsenal in 2011.
