Gulf News photographers joined the celebrations featuring groups of men and women performing the ‘dandiya raas’, a dance involving the tapping of sticks carried by dancers in both hands to a rhythmic beat. The modern version called ‘disco dandiya’ uses contemporary disco music mixed with traditional tunes.
