From the Editors: Dubai's One-Day Court ensures swift justice

One-Day Court ensures swift justice: One-Day Court initiative launched by the Dubai Government has been a success in providing swift justice in certain cases. The initiative cut waiting time at Dubai Courts for misdemeanour cases. The initiative was officially rolled out in March 2017 to ensure faster justice for cases like bounced cheques, alcohol-related offences, residency and traffic cases at the One-Day Court set up in some police stations in Dubai. The initiative targets to reduce time required in investigation and prosecution by implementing a verdict in two phases in less than 24 hours for the cases that don’t require hearings by witnesses. The One-Day Court has certainly brought a huge relief for residents who can now resolve their issues within the shortest possible time. [COMMENT BY: Ashfaq Ahmed,Senior Assistant Editor]

Nature needs shift in human mindset: A UN report has urged a shift in mindset among governments and businesses, calling for increased spending to protect and restore nature. The report says about $350 billion will be need for this by 2030. There is no doubt that the quality of our lives, the food we eat and our health depend on well-functioning natural systems. Yet we take nature for granted and many times even abuse it. Cutting down forests has a major impact on climate change and threatens wildfire too. Crusader Rashford gets a pat on the back from Barack Obama: Marcus Rashford, the young Manchester United striker who had been doing a lot of work on social issues like campaign to tackle child food poverty in Britain during the coronavirus pandemic, earned a pat on the back from from former US president Barack Obama. ‘’A lot of the young people I meet - including Marcus - they're ahead of where I was when I was 23. They’re already making changes and being positive forces in their communities,’’ said Obama when they met virtually in an online conversation organised by Penguin Books and discussed topics such as the positive impact of reading. Kim’s COVID-19 battle: In the most recent episode of ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’, it was revealed that Kim Kardashian and her family had tested positive for COVID-19 late in 2020. The famous family had kept their diagnosis a secret from the world until now. In the episode it was implied that they contracted it after one of her kids caught it from his school. It goes to show that despite the vigorous testing and precautionary measures they can afford, anyone can catch the virus at any time. The best thing we can all do is be safe and get vaccinated.
